Services of Transitions Center
Grief Counseling
Master's prepared and licensed staff provide individual counseling for children, youth, adults and families. Services are provided at all Hospice Care Corporation offices including the Transitions Center located in Morgantown as well as in the home, at school or the workplace, and other community locations. Grief counseling is provided on a sliding fee scale. No one is denied services because of inability to pay.
Support Groups
The Transitions Center offers support groups for all ages based on the need and interest of individuals in the community. The groups can be made available in any Hospice Care Corporation offices including the Transitions Center located in Morgantown as well as other community sites or workplace settings. Internet and phone groups are available based on interest.
Internet Counseling
Internet counseling services are available through the Transitions Center Website. These services are for those who prefer to receive professional advice, support, and information and referral services from the comfort of their personal computer.
Education and Training Opportunities
The Transitions Center provides training and workshops for employers, school personnel, social service and health care workers, safety forces, funeral homes, clergy, community and service groups, and others who would benefit from education and training. Sessions are tailored to the specific needs of the participants. Examples include grief in the workplace, integrating grief and loss curriculum into the classroom, helping children cope with tragedy, and supporting those with dementia with grief and loss.
Resource Library
The Transitions Center maintains a library of printed and video materials related to death and dying as well as grief and bereavement. Interested individuals may check out these materials. Critical Incidence Response Services
A sudden and unexpected death can generate a severe crisis. The Transitions Center provides crisis intervention when there is a death or sudden loss that impacts a community. Examples include the death of a teacher, co-worker, police officer, or student. A death may be expected as in the case of an illness, or may be traumatic, such as the result of homicide, suicide, or accident. The loss can also be the result of a natural or man-made catastrophe. The focus of crisis intervention is supporting the leadership in decision-making, conducting de-briefing, providing education and presentations, and facilitating on-site support groups for those most impacted.
Children's Bereavement Camp
Camp Nabe (Nah' bee) is a bereavement camp designed for children 7-17 who have experienced the death of a loved one. The camp is offered at no cost and is open to any child in West Virginia . The weekend event contains fun activities intermixed with coping skills and appropriate alternatives in expressing their grief. Call 304-599-7490 for more details.
Services Designed for the Workplace
The Transitions Center assists employers throughout north central West Virginia in preparing for and responding to a loss related to death. Available services include education, consultation, workshops and seminars, management training, crisis intervention, support groups and grief counseling. The Bereavement Center works with managers, supervisors, employees and their families. Services can be customized to fit a particular employer's needs.
Education
The Transitions Center provides education and training for employers, employees and their families. Sessions are tailored to the specific needs of the participants. Integrating grief and loss into management and supervisor training; basic concepts of grief and loss, advanced care planning; talking to children about death, maintaining workplace responsibilities, supporting employees who are caregivers, responding to employees who are grieving, and helping grieving co-workers are examples of topics.
Consultation
Transitions Center staff assists employers in identification and assessment of organizational needs, as well as development of a plan of action. Examples include assisting employees in preparing for and responding to the death of a co-worker, providing support when there is a sudden death, developing a crisis response plan, and preparing supervisors to respond to grief and loss. Consultations are provided either via telephone or on-site.
Crisis Intervention
A sudden and unexpected death can generate a severe crisis. The Transitions Center provides crisis intervention when there is a death that impacts the workplace, such as the death of a supervisor, employee, or employee's family member. Staff conduct de-briefings, provide education and presentations, and are available to facilitate on-site support groups.
Support Groups
The Transitions Center offers six-week education and monthly support groups at a number of locations throughout Northeast Ohio . These groups are open to the community. Groups are tailored to the many needs of the bereaved, including those experiencing perinatal loss, groups for children, teens, younger widows/widowers, and those for all ages. Groups for survivors of suicide, AIDS, and for those with other specific needs are also offered as the need arises.
Individual and Family Grief Counseling
Master's prepared licensed staff provide individual counseling for children, youth, adults and families.
SCHOOL SERVICES
The Transitions Center provides death education and support groups for children, youth and families in a variety of formats, including groups for those experiencing loss through violence, the death of a parent or sibling, and other specific needs. Examples include:
- Short-term support interventions (3 sessions) for students.
- Family programming can be set up conjointly with children's groups.
Child and Adult Grief Therapists are available to work individually with children, youth and their families through The Bereavement Center. Call (216) 486-6838 to schedule a grief counseling appointment. Individual counseling is provided on a sliding fee schedule.

Transitions Center staff assist school leadership in identifying the critical factors of a situation and developing a plan of action. Examples include how to talk with children about tragedy, grief and loss; helping a teacher work with a child whose family member is dying; and integrating bereavement materials into the curriculum. Consultations are provided either via telephone or on-site.

The Bereavement Center consult with staff, conduct de-briefing, provide education and presentations, and facilitate on-site support groups for children, staff and families.

The Bereavement Center provides death education, training seminars, and workshops for school personnel, PTA/PTO organizations, students and families. Sessions are tailored to the specific needs of the participants. Integrating grief and loss curriculum into the classroom, helping children cope with tragedy, talking to children about death, or helping a classroom respond when a classmate has experienced a death are examples.
Consultations
The Bereavement Center staff provides consultation to employers, school personnel, social service/health care workers, safety forces, and others. Staff assists the individual in identifying the critical factors of a situation and developing a plan of action. Consultations are provided either via telephone or on-site. Examples include working with a family member who has to tell their children about a sudden death; assisting an employer consider key workplace issues to consider when an employee has died; helping a teacher work with a child whose family member is dying; providing a social worker with resource information; assisting a nursing home in identifying support group approaches.
